於是用比喻說、一個人有一棵無花果樹、栽在葡萄園裡．他來到樹前找果子、卻找不著。 就對管園的說、看哪、我這三年、來到這無花果樹前找果子、竟找不著、把他砍了罷．何必白佔地土呢。 管園的說、主阿、今年且留著、等我周圍掘開土、加上糞． 以後若結果子便罷．不然再把他砍了。
And He began telling this parable: “A man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any. “And he said to the vineyard-keeper, ‘Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?’ “And he answered and said to him, ‘Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.'”
